ArtCare Awards & Benefit 2016

Event & Sponsorship Overview

Thank you for your interest in ArtCare and joining us in supporting public arts programs in San Francisco through the first annual ArtCare Benefit. We are excited to invite you to celebrate San Francisco’s vibrant arts and culture and honor two incredible individuals who have both contributed extraordinary works to define and move San Francisco’s Arts Community forward. Funds from this event will enable ArtCare to support our key programs; Civic Art Collection Restoration, Conservation & Maintenance, Sister City Cultural Exchange, Arts Education and honoring local arts luminaries.

The inaugural event will be hosted at the Green Room of the newly renovated War Memorial Veterans Building and will honor Armistead Maupin with the Mayor’s Art Award and Stephen Oliver with the ArtCare Lifetime Achievement Award.

About ArtCare

ArtCare supports the work of the San Francisco Arts Commission, enriching cultural life in our city, renowned for its artistic vitality, innovation, opportunity, and inclusiveness, where art is valued and creativity thrives. ArtCare works in conjunction with the Mayor, the Director of Cultural Affairs and the Arts Commissioners.

ArtCare was founded in 2010 as a partnership between the San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) and the San Francisco Art Dealers Association (SFADA) that focused on the restoration of aging and damaged public artworks that are among the City’s major cultural assets. In 2013 the decision was made for ArtCare to become an independent nonprofit and to expand its program areas. ArtCare is currently a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives and all contributions are tax-deductible.

In 2014, ArtCare was awarded $100,000 from Bank of America to support the restoration of Coit Tower’s 27 historic murals as well as arts education programs that bring the artists and their murals to life. The restoration effort was acknowledged by a California Governor’s Historic Preservation Award. ArtCare has also funded the restoration of the seminal 1971 Peter Voulkos sculpture at the Hall of Justice; the Man Lin Choi sculpture, Movement: The First 100 Years, 1982, located on the Embarcadero’s Sue Bierman Park; and Keith Haring’s 1989 Dancing Figures at 3rd & Howard streets (temporarily located at the de Young Museum).

We would love to have you join us for this event in support of preserving the best of San Francisco arts and culture while also supporting SFAC, an institution that helps define our City locally, nationally and globally.
